The purpose of this study is to examine influx of refugees into Korea and to analyze their experiences of social exclusion after being recognized as refugees.

After becoming refugees, they were entitled to diverse social security services and experienced positive changes in their lives. However, they also faced unresolved problems of social exclusions and discrimination. More specifically, participants experienced ¡®barriers of employment and economic exclusion¡¯, ¡®being excluded from educational opportunities for social adaptation and capability enhancement¡¯, ¡®being excluded from access to information of social security system¡¯, ¡®being excluded from service delivery system¡¯ and ¡®lack of social support and barriers to social integration¡¯. Based on the findings, this study proposed that more active efforts of recognized refugees and social support of Korean government to promote social integration of recognized refugees in Korea are needed.
